The park overlooks Rend Lake, a 30-square mile reservoir that is popular with boaters, watersport enthusiasts, and anglers, who come from miles around to fish for largemouth bass, black and white crappie, channel catfish, and bluegill.

Other nearby recreation areas include Crab Orchard Lake and Giant City State Park, both within thirty-five miles of the city, and the Shawnee National Forest, located just sixty-five miles to the southeast.

Christopher is home to the Silkwood Inn Museum, a historic two-story inn built in 1827 that was a frequent stop for travelers along the Shawneetown-Kaskaskia trail. The city hosts a number of festivals and special events each year, including the Christopher 5K Run/Walk, Christopher Homecoming, and Christopher Lions Club Fall Festival, held each May, June, and October, respectively.
